It’s common for parents to have battles with their kids about screens and technology use. So you are not alone! But what is often forgotten is that tech also has positive influence in our lives. It’s important to find the balance. This short video gives you a positive spin on tech so that you can begin to foster healthy habits for your kids and yourself.

Motivation and Engagement

Face it! Your kids are motivated and engaged by technology. They see it as a fun activity and it’s often rewarding. Even adults feel the same way about tech! Don’t overlook how useful this can be in helping you to guide your child’s habits and routines. The important aspect of motivation and engagement is to protect against addiction.

Educational

Usually young children start out their screen interactions with some form of educational apps. It’s fun to see your toddler learn to sort colors, identify numbers and be entertained by purposeful songs. The educational aspect of tech affects everyone! Kids are experts at fact checking with google and watching youtube videos to learn obscure information. Embrace the educational value and celebrate it by doing things as a family that involves tech and education.

Expands Your World View

Access to technology allows all users to learn more about the whole world. Your kids have the ability to explore and discover the beauty and diversity of our world at their fingertips. And to them this is everyday life! Exposure to different cultures, landscapes and beliefs shapes their thinking and their priorities. You can help them navigate this by being a positive role model.

Social Connections

Social media usually gets a bad rap, but the reality is your kids are going to make social connections online throughout their lives. It’s up to you to help them learn to do so safely and with balance. Since your kids’ friends won’t always be visiting your home, foster communication with your child so that you can know how social media is impacting their development.

Digital Literacy

Technology isn’t going away. Your kids will need to have the power to make good decisions when it comes to using devices, computers and other tech. This knowledge is called digital literacy. By taking a positive outlook on screens and technology you’ll have the influence to shape your child’s literacy. Become a role model and a mentor in their life. Digital literacy is critical to healthy development.
